I looked into this only just recently, i found that grasscarp can filter small solids and algae and some crayfish will eat fishpoo/feed that settles on the bottom. Mussels appear attractive at first because these filter fine solids and a fairly large amount of litres of water daily. However the reproduction cycle of mussels may pose a problem as mussels go to an initial spore/parasitic stage where they attach to fish.

Edit that should be silvercarp as thats the filter variety, grasscarp will eat all the waterplants

Indeed the reproductive cycle of freshwater musells requires a fish "host" to stimulate the spawning of spores, fertilisation, and juvenille mussel development... where upon they detach from the fish host .... this does not effect the fish in any way....
