Pond Filter ideas

    I just came up with a design to filter the solids from the fish tank. Don't have to resources to test it. Share your thoughts.

    Hi Anish.

    Dont see why it would work, however thats just an over engineered swirl filter from what i can see. You can make a very cheap and highly effective version of this for about $50 with off the shelf items. A couple of changes that will improve your filter. The inlet needs to be offset to allow the water to cause it to slowly swirl around the drum. Its centrifical force that actually drops solids out of the water. and your outflow needs to be as central as you can get it, and the solids will all go to the outside edges of the filter.     Here is how it should work. The solids come into the cone mesh ( did not make the cone mesh in the picture) off center to form a votex, the solids get filtered out and drains down to the blue barrel and the filtered water collects in the round chamber which flows out to the next stage such as a biofilter or second filter such as a particulate filter.
